There is a method to my madness.

I completed another exercise program this morning before I would allow myself to open my computer. Boudicca contends that most people can't handle this kind of exercise mentally or physically. But there is a method to my madness, because in July of 2006, I had a laminectomy with fusion of spinal discs 4 & 5. This was all pinned together with 4 titanium screws. In addition, I have osteopenia.

Exercise builds new bone. In addition, exercise makes your muscles stronger and allows your bones to work easier. My back surgery was very successful because I had a good surgeon, good home care, and I am addicted to exercise because I can remember what it was like prior to surgery. If I fail to exercise, I will be back to square one again because I am 65 years old now. The older you get the easier it is to loose the strength you have built up.

Becky states she rides her bike 6 miles a day which is great except she is dependent on the weather. I use to ride my bike 20 miles each week-end when I worked. It is great to be outdoors when you exercise.

Erica needs help in getting her exercise program started. The longer you wait the harder it gets. Erica, find you a good looking personal trainer, today!!!!!

Years ago I could quit and then pick up my exercise regime and my muscle memory would just kick in... but not anymore. A few days without a workout and things start to fall apart and it's like starting all over again.

My wife, Terry the Navigator, started at Curves a cople of weeks ago and loves the routine. (She also enjoys the gossip, but that's another story!) She says it's one exercise program she thinks she can stick with.

Unfortunately, (or maybe not) there is no such program available for guys. That just means I have to go outside and do some heavy lifting (retaining wall), stretches (brush clearing), and toe touches (staining the deck) until I can get the treadmill and stationary bike into the basement.

Pamibe, that is what I have been telling Erica. The older you get the harder it is to do. Thanks.

Joated, I loved your exercise routine. For some reason it sounds just like Guyk's answer to exercise.

I'm telling you, you are special, and I mean that in the sincerest and nicest way.

I personally KNOW too many people who did not bother to take care of themselves after surgery. It makes me NUTS.

Adding exercise and the level you have, takes a lot of mental stamina.

I was diagnosed with osteopenia when I was 36. I took up weight lifting and exercise. At 40, it was gone. I will never have the bones of a woman my age (41), but I no longer have the bones of someone 20 years older than I, either.

But... I have been reading GuyK for awhile and I suspected this is the kind of woman you are, a 'get it done' kind of person. You just verified. :)
